Joinville

Joinville is the largest and richest city in the State of Santa Catarina, situated in the south of Brasil. Also known as the City of Flowers, the City of Bicycles or even City of the princes, Joinville is a city with a European air, born from a diverse mixture of German, Swiss, Polish, Norwegian, Austrian and Italian immigrants.

The city was a "wedding present". In mid 1843, the French prince, Fracois Ferdinand Felipe, married a Portuguese princess, Francisca Carolina, sister of D. Pedro II.

In honor of this union, the patriarch gave the land (where Joinville is now situated) as a wedding present to the royal couple.

First called, Colonia Dona Francisca, only one year later, in 1852 did the colony receive the name of Joinville.
